15 evacuated from apartment building after early morning fire

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee fire officials responded to an apartment fire early Sunday morning, September 2nd near 34th and Wells.

Milwaukee Fire Department officials say the fire started on a first-floor apartment and spread to the back of the building, burning a large portion of it, along with a hallway.

15 people were evacuated safely, and no one was hurt.

Officials say the fire caused $50,000 in damage to the building, but there was no damage to contents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the 15 people who were evacuated from their homes.
