1 dead, 1 severely injured after crash involving 2 vehicles in Town of Yorkville

YORKVILLE -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened in the Town of Yorkville on Tuesday, August 30th.

Officials say 911 calls about two vehicles being involved in an accident on S. Sylvania Ave. started coming in shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Racine County Sheriff’s deputies responded and found two occupants from one of the vehicles involved were severely injured. The injured parties were a married couple from the Village of Union Grove. The injured couple was transported to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. The 85-year-old man sustained serious injuries, but they were not life-threatening. The wife, now identified as 87-year-old Evelyn Goebel, did not survive her injuries and passed away. The 21-year-old driver of the second vehicle involved was not injured.

Officials say their preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the second vehicle failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn. At this time, it appears alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash. It appears all parties were using their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
