Back-to-school trends: A look at the must-have items for back-to-school

MILWAUKEE -- School bells are starting to ring and Phil Kelley from Meijer joins FOX6 WakeUp with a look at the must-have items for back to school.

Below are 2016 back-to-school trends Meijer is predicting or has already seen grow in popularity in-store this year.

School supplies - Elementary / Middle and high school
• Pokemon, Paw Patrol, Despicable Me and Superhero backpacks (elementary)
• Design / color your own backpack (middle/elementary)
• Emoji-themed, shiny metallic material and neon shades (middle/elementary)

2016 Fads:
• Items that encourage and allow for self-expression have been popular among students both young and old (i.e. color your own backpack, doodle design your notebook and coloring folders)
• Chevron, animal print and other mixed media patterns are also hot this year.
• School supplies with bright, shiny features, such as notebooks, pens and binders that are glittery, gold or other metallic colors have grown in popularity.
