WIAA Div. 2 Championship: Homestead tops Waukesha West, 28-12

MADISON — Homestead capitalized on a pair of early Waukesha West turnovers to win the WIAA Division 2 state championship with a 28-12 victory Friday at Camp Randall Stadium.

The title is Homestead's fifth overall and first since defeating Waunakee for the championship in 2012.

The Highlanders scored 21 points in nearly 6-minute stretch in the first half that included a blocked punt and a pair of turnovers by the Wolverines.

After Tyler Woldt blocked a punt, Eric Zoeller hit Patrick Minkin for a 33-yard touchdown with 5:18 left in the first quarter.

Sean Driscoll intercepted Connor Blount on the first play of Waukesha West's next possession. Three plays later, Matt Winters scored a three-yard touchdown to put the Highlanders up 14-0.

Zoeller made it 21-0 with a 34-yard touchdown run set up by a forced fumble by Michael Bruner.
