Sharing his love for baseball with children: Rob Deer back in Milwaukee, hosting baseball camps
FRANKLIN (WITI) -- Baseball is life for Rob Deer. His passion and hard work allowed him to play in the Major Leagues for more than a decade, spending four of those years playing for the Milwaukee Brewers.
"I've played in some great places, some fun places, but there's nothing like being here. There's nothing like Milwaukee Brewers fans -- just the whole atmosphere," said Deer.
Now, he is back in Milwaukee -- sharing his love for baseball with children.
"I see the enjoyment in their eyes and I see how they've improved, and I have their parents come up to me and say, 'Rob, it's amazing how much he's improved.' That, to me, is the greatest thing I can do," said Deer.
Deer is hosting a series of baseball camps at The Rock Sports Complex for kids ages seven to 17.
"I got to learn things that I normally don't do during real baseball games," said eight-year-old Kyle Alivo.
They work on hitting, base running, infield and outfield play, and many of the young ones were thrilled to meet a Brewers legend.
"I felt like, happy that I got to meet an actual Brewers player," said eight-year-old Jack Zimmerman.
With the All-Star Game kicking off next week, these little sluggers and Coach Deer are looking forward to watching the game.
"There's four Brewers. That's the most Brewers that there's ever been in an All-Star Game," said Alivo.
"I'm excited for them. I like watching them play, and I'm excited for the city," said Deer.
These young players hope one day they too can call themselves a Milwaukee Brewers player.
"When the fans are cheering, I feel like I'm meant to be there," said Alivo.
