Our guy got punished for base-brawl, why not theirs?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Brewers fans are reacting after Major League Baseball on Tuesday, April 22nd handed down suspensions against Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado and Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez. This, after a base-brawl at the Brewers-Pirates game in Pittsburgh on Sunday. MLB also suspended Pirates outfielder Travis Snider for two games — and his teammate, catcher Russell Martin was suspended for one game.

At Miller Park on Tuesday night, not all the pregame talk was about the game at hand. Eyes were also glued to a replay of the base-brawl on Sunday, as FOX6 News showed it to fans on an iPad.

"I got really excited when the benches exploded," one fan said.

"Looks like a hockey match," another fan said.

"Oh my God it's like a boxing match -- right in the mouth," a fan told FOX6 News.

Many had similar reactions when they either saw the video for the first time or watched the replay.

Many of them are not seeing eye-to-eye with Major League Baseball.

"I think Gomez was just kind of defending himself," one fan said.

Fans' biggest beef seems to be regarding Pirates pitcher Garrit Cole -- who had a role in starting the fight. He received no punishment.

Fans say while some see the suspensions as negative, they see the fight as only helping a team that is showing passion with strong support from fans.

"It's nice to know that your whole team has your back," one fan said.

"They'll come back swinging hard again," another fan said.

Just hopefully not with their fists!

FOX6 News has learned Maldonado's suspension began with Tuesday night's game. Gomez is said to be appealing his suspension.
