Oak Creek defeats Superior for Division 1 title



GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Oak Creek beat Superior 73-52 for its first Division 1 girls state basketball championship on Saturday at the Resch Center behind a stunning display of shooting.

The Knights (26-2) set a girls state tournament record by shooting 67.6 percent from floor. They were led by Stephanie Kostowicz's 19 points. Tamya Sims chipped in 18 and Katie Finn added 15 points.

Oak Creek made four consecutive three-pointers late in the third quarter to turn an 11-point advantage into a 20-point lead. The Knights finished 9-of-15 from three-point range.

Superior (24-4) was led by Jessica Lindstrom's 23 points and Hailey Kontny's 16 points. The Spartans shot just 32.1 percent.

Oak Creek used an 11-0 run to take a quick 11-2 lead behind Jenna Santi and Hannah Settingsgaard's three-pointers.
