New field welcomes Braves and Brewers for opener

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers will debut a new field when they host the Atlanta Braves in the season opener Monday for both teams.

The Brewers laid down new sod in October. Little did the team know then that winter would be so brutally cold in the Midwest.

The franchise was scheduled to bring in grow lamps from Europe before winter hit to assist with year-round maintenance. It turned out to be perfect timing after the lamps arrived this month.

The field looked lush and green for a two-game exhibition set this weekend against the Kansas City Royals. Players and manager Ron Roenicke gave it rave reviews.

Yovani Gallardo is scheduled to start his fifth career opener for Milwaukee. He'll be opposed by Atlanta's Julio Teheran.
