MU suffers crushing 2 OT loss at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WITI) -- Marquette rallied from an 11 point deficit in regulation to tie Providence, only to suffer a devastating 81-80 loss to the Friars, Tuesday night, March 4th in Rhode Island.

Desperate for a victory to at least stay in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament berth, Buzz Williams Golden Eagles played valiantly.

Todd Mayo was brilliant on offense, scoring 26 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds. Mayo drained 3 fouls shots to get the game to the first overtime.

But Bryce Cotton hit two free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining to lift Providence to a critical win.
