Mequon's Jordan Niebrugge dazzling many on the links

MEQUON (WITI) -- The Wisconsin State Amateur Golf Tournament is in its 112th year. Officials had never issued media credentials or had an interview room. But there may never have been a young player in the event like Mequon's Jordan Niebrugge.

Niebrugge is a sophomore to be at Oklahoma State. On Tuesday, July 23rd, he fired a six under par 66 at the state amateur championship.

The Homestead High School graduate has been at the head of the field in Wisconsin golf. In 2011, Niebrugge became the youngest winner in the 91-year history of the Wisconsin State Open. In 2012, he won the WIAA Boys State crown. In June, he added the WSGA state match trophy to his mantle.

But the honorable mention All-American stepped onto the national spotlight when he recently won the U.S. Public Links Championship in Virginia. He did so by upsetting the number one college player in the country. The victory also earned Niebrugge a spot at the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
