Marquette struggles in Philadelphia in loss to Villanova

PHILADELPHIA (WITI) -- In a game that was ugly at times, number 17 Marquette squandered it's chance to stay on top of the Big East standings by losing to unranked Villanova 60-56.

Junior Cadougan was the only Golden Eagles' player to score in double figures as he finished with 12 points. Marquette only shot 44 percent from the floor, including only 3 of 12 from 3 point range.

Turnovers were also a problem for Marquette as they gave the ball up 19 times.

The game was tied at 22 at halftime as both defenses really stifled the flow of the game in the first half. But in the second half, Darrun Hilliard turned things around for the Wildcats, finishing with 22 points in the game. It was his defense that really stood out as he helped keep Davante Gardner quiet in the game as Gardner only had 2 points in 11 minutes.

Marquette falls to 19-7 overall and 10-4 in the Big East. Up next for the Golden Eagles is Syracuse. They'll meet Monday at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
