Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings to play outdoors Sunday for the first time since 1981

MINNESOTA (WITI) -- The Green Bay Packers are coming off two HUGE high-scoring victories at Lambeau Field as they head to Minnesota to face the Vikings this Sunday, November 23rd -- for the 109th time. The Packers stomped the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, 53-20 -- and the week before that, they saw a 55-14 victory over the rival Chicago Bears.

You can watch Sunday's game on FOX6! Kickoff is set for noon.

The Green Bay Packers are 7-3 on the season. The Vikings are 4-6.

Sunday's game marks the second time this season the Packers have met the Vikings on the gridiron. The last time was October 2nd at Lambeau Field. The Packers won 42-10.

It may be chilly this weekend! Sunday will be the first outdoor game (TCF Bank Stadium) between the Packers and Vikings in Minnesota since they played at Metropolitan Stadium on November 29th, 1981.

The Packers and Vikings have met 108 times, and they've faced off in two postseason contests. The Packers hold a 57-49-2 edge over the Vikings in the all-time series. The Packers are 8-1-1 in the last 10 games between the teams during the regular and postseason, including 3-1 at Minnesota. The Packers’ only loss during that span was by three points in 2012.

Sunday's game could be another high-scoring game for the Pack. The Packers have scored 30-plus points in six of their last eight regular-season games against Minnesota. That included a 42-point game earlier this season, a 44-point outing at Minnesota last season in Week 8, the most points ever scored by Green Bay at the Metrodome, and a 45-point effort at Lambeau Field in 2011. Since 2006, the Packers have scored 20-plus points against the Vikings in 15 of 16 regular-season games. The Packers’ 495 points scored in the regular-season since 2006 are the most against the Vikings in the NFL.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been on fire this season -- and he could lead the Packers to victory over the Vikings this Sunday. Including the postseason, Green Bay is 9-4 against Minnesota with Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback and have won eight of the last nine contests.

The Packers and the Vikings last met in Minnesota on October 27th, 2013 at Mall of America Field. The Packers won, 44-31.

The Minnesota Vikings have a new head coach this season. Mike Zimmer is in his first year as the Vikings' ninth head coach. Zimmer spent 20 seasons as an assistant coach in the NFL, including the last 14 as a defensive coordinator for Cincinnati, Atlanta and Dallas.

When the Packers and Vikings met earlier this season -- in October, the Packers won 42-10. Green Bay scored 42 unanswered points in the first three quarters. QB Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns and a passer rating of 138.5 whlie RB Eddie Lacy ran for a season-high 105 yards and two touchdowns. LB Julius Peppers returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown.

The stat of the week is the sheer number of points the Packers have scored in their last two games -- 55 against Chicago in Week 10 and 53 versus Philadelphia in Week 11 -- for a grand total of 108 points. The Packers are only the second team in NFL history to score 53-plus points in back-to-back games. It marked the first time in franchise history that the Packers registered back-to-back 50-point games. Green Bay is the only team to score at least 50 points twice this season.

Something to look for this Sunday: QB Aaron Rodgers needs one more three-touchdown/zero-interception game to tie NE QB Tom Brady (eight in 2007) for the most in NFL history in a single season.
