Final preseason matchup: Green Bay Packers face Chiefs in Kansas City Thursday night

KANSAS CITY -- The Green Bay Packers face the Chiefs in Kansas City on Thursday night, September 1st in their final preseason game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

According to Packers.com, Thursday night's matchup will be the eighth time, and the sixth since 2010, that the Packers and Chiefs will face each other in the final preseason game. Green Bay is 4-3 when closing out the preseason against Kansas City and 8-7-1 overall when playing the Chiefs in the preseason.

The Packers have won three of the last four preseason matchups against the Chiefs and two of the last three regular-season contests, including a 38-28 win at Lambeau Field in Week 3 of the 2015 regular season.

Green Bay’s last victory at Kansas City came during the 2007 regular season (33-22).

The Packers have won four of their last five preseason finales, according to Packers.com.

Over the last two years, Green Bay has outscored its opponents, 72-24, in Week 4 of the preseason, according to Packers.com.

The Packers are undefeated in the preseason -- 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

The Packers and Chiefs last met in the regular season on September 28th, 2015. The Packers won the game played at Lambeau Field 38-28. In that game, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw five touchdowns and went 333 yards on 24 of 35 passing in the wire-to-wire victory. QB Alex Smith and the Kansas City comeback attempt fell short after trailing 31-7 late in the third quarter.

The Packers will be on the road until the end of September. The game in Kansas City marks the second of four consecutive road games. The Packers return home on September 25th when they'll host the Lions at Lambeau Field.

The Packers open the regular season on the road vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 11th.
