Excitement electric as Milwaukee Brewers go for tenth win in a row
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers faced the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, April 14th to try to win their tenth game in a row -- and the excitement in and around Miller Park was electric Monday evening!
"We got three different generations of Brewers fans here enjoying the game," Jeff Hren said.
"I hope we see more than two home runs tonight!' Hren's young son, Grayson said.
The Brewers came in to Monday night's game riding a nine-game winning streak. That's part of the reason David and Joanne Mischo walked through the turnstile at Miller Park on Monday evening.
"Let's beat the Brewers' record. It's what, 13? Let's beat that," David Mischo said.
That was back in 1987 -- when the Brewers won 13 in a row.
"We actually went to George Webb`s, me and my brother, and they were lined up around the block in the streets. It was crazy," Scott Antczak remembers.
Antczak is hoping for more craziness this Brewers season.
Just like 27 years ago, George Webb will give away free burgers if the Brewers' winning streak hits 12.
"I think it's awesome for cheapskates like me," Antczak said.
"Our customers are asking about it. Our staff is asking about it," George Webb Vice President Ryan Stamm said.
The signs are up around George Webb restaurants -- as is the enthusiasm.
"We're making calls -- making sure our suppliers are ready, our vendors are ready," Stamm said.
Meanwhile, Sobelman's is planning on giving away free burgers when the Brewers' winning streak hits 10.
"We are starting to prepare for this right now," Dave Sobelman said.
If the Brewers win Monday, free burgers will be offered at Sobelman's on Tuesday, April 15th.
"I think they're going to win, and I'm not afraid to give away free burgers. I say 'go Brewers!'" Dave Sobelman said.
As the Brewers turn heads and try to keep their winning streak alive -- one has to wonder whether Milwaukee will become more of a burger town vs. a brat town -- at least during this stretch.
"It will be a burger town only because the word 'free' is in front of it. But it`s a brat town," Joanne Mischo said.
Unfortunately, the Brewers nine-game winning streak was snapped on Monday night -- with a 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Sobelman's says it will be giving away half-price burgers on Tuesday.
