Dubious debut; Pirates trip Hellweg and Brewers

PITTSBURGH-- Johnny Hellweg's first major league inning was just fine, but his first overall appearance in the bigs is not positive.  The rookie righthander is on the hook for the loss as the Brewers tumble in Pittsburgh, 10-3.  The loss keeps the Crew in the division cellar, while the win allows the Pirates to stay atop the standings.

Hellweg allowed 7 runs (5 earned) before being removed in the second inning at PNC Park.  He threw 39 pitches in that inning alone, although he was extended due to some shaky fielding behind him.

The Brewers had jumped out to a 3-nothing lead in the top of the first inning, but they wouldn't score again all night.  Andrew McCutcheon had 3 hits, including a homer for Pittsburgh.  Saturday night's game is on FOX SIX.
