Discovering Dawson, MU Wins 80-72

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Marquette Golden Eagles have had plenty of problems closing out close games this season, but on Monday night, they rallied for an uplifiting 80-72 overtime win at Georgetown.

Freshman John Dawson justified his increased playing time by tallying 12 points, hitting a big basket and a big three pointer in the extra session.  Fellow guard Todd Mayo only scored 6 points, but three of them tied the game with 6 seconds to play.  And one more little-used player, Steve Taylor Jr., showed what he can do when healthy, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Marquette was picked to win the Big East Conference in the preseason rankings and Georgetown was voted second.  Each team is having a middle-of-the-pack type campaign, although MU could use the road triumph as a boost.  The Golden Eagles don't play again until hosting Villanova Saturday afternoon.
