Celebrating the World Cup: Second-annual Soccerfest this weekend at Veterans Park
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Soccer Development Group (MSDG) is pleased to announce the second-annual Soccerfest. This year's fundraiser will celebrate the World Cup and will be one of the largest soccer festivals in the Midwest.
Lakefront Soccerfest will be held at Milwaukee's Veterans Park, on Sunday, June 15, 2014.
All are welcome to attend, free-of-charge, and join us on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Rather than a tournament, this community event is focused on promoting family, diversity, sustainability, fair-play, health & wellness, and serves as a fundraiser for the promotion of youth soccer.
This one-of-a-kind event features friendly 3 vs. 3 soccer games for U-7, through adult, along with a series of soccer-related activities for family members of all ages.
Soccer players and teams from all over Wisconsin are invited.
If any youth teams require financial assistance then there will be no charge and they will play for free.
With over 2 million square feet to use, there's more than enough room for everybody.
While volunteers from Marquette University, Milwaukee School of Engineering and UW-Milwaukee act as field ambassadors, we'll fill 30 3 vs. 3 soccer fields - from 9:00 a.m., until 6:00 p.m. - as each field hosts six-person squads.
Volunteers will also be collecting 'gently used' soccer equipment to be handed out to players in need.
Money generated through sponsorship agreements and food sales go towards providing soccer equipment and scholarships to youth soccer players in the Greater Milwaukee Area.
Milwaukee Soccer Development Group is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012.
The mission of MSDG is to promote the sport of soccer in the Greater Milwaukee Area by providing opportunities and support for young people at any level to enjoy the game within the community.
