BOSTON -- The Red Sox took advantage of some shoddy defense by the normally slick-fielding Cardinals to embarrass St. Louis 8-1, in game one of the World Series Wednesday night in Boston.
Mike Napoli's 3-run double in the first inning, after a muffed double play, got the hosts off and running.
Jon Lester pitched shutout ball for 7 and 2/3rds innings against the N.L. Champs.
Making matters worse for St. Louis, Carlos Beltran had to leave the game after bruising his ribs while robbing David Ortiz of a grand slam homer.
Game two is Thursday night on Fox.
