Bullpen, key hits help Brewers beat Phillies

MILWAUKEE (WITI)--- Timely hitting and good relief pitching helped the Brewers beat the Phillies 4-3 Saturday night at Miller Park.

Down 1-0 after a home run by Domonic Brown, his 19th of the season, the Brewers pitchers settled down and got help.

In the 3rd inning, Jean Segura tied the game at 1 with a line drive home run that landed in the Brewers bullpen.

It was small ball that gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead in the 6th inning. Jonathan Lucroy doubled to left driving in Ryan Braun. The next batter, Carlos Gomez then singled home Aramis Ramirez to extend the lead to 3-1.

Braun, who was 3-4 on the night, drove in an insurance run in the 7th on a single to left giving the Brewers a 4-1 lead.

After Tom Gorzelanny started, going 4 innings and allowing only a run, Tyler Thornburg, who earned the win, came on and pitched 2 scoreless innings.

John Axford added another scoreless inning before giving way to Brandon Kinzler who struggled. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in the 8th inning, but left with the lead.

Recently signed Francisco Rodriguez shut the Phillies down in the 9th inning for the save and the Brewers won for the 2nd night in a row.

The Brewers will go for 3 straight in the series finale Sunday at Miller Park.
