Brewers trade reliever Burke Badenhop to Boston

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers acquired left-handed pitcher Luis Ortega from Boston in exchange for right-handed reliever Burke Badenhop on Friday, November 22nd.

Ortega, 20, has spent two seasons in the minor leagues with Boston, pitching in the Dominican League (2011) and Gulf Coast League (2012). He is 9-6 with a 2.25 ERA in 25 games, including 14 starts (96ip, 24er). Ortega pitched exclusively as a starting pitcher in 2011, going 6-3 with a 2.12 ERA in 13 starts. He made 12 appearances (1 start) this season, going 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA.

Ortega was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 2, 2011.

Badenhop, 30, went 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA and 1 save in 63 relief appearances during his only season with the Brewers. He was acquired from Tampa Bay last December 1 in exchange for outfielder Raul Mondesi Jr. Badenhop is eligible for arbitration.
