MILWAUKEE-- The Brewers are still one of the top teams in the National League recordwise, but their recent play is not at the level of a division leader. On Monday night, questionable baserunning helped lead to a 3-2 loss to the scuffling Phillies at Miller Park.
All-Star outfielder Carlos Gomez was picked off second base easily, shortstop Jean Segura inexplicably tried to go from first to third after getting a bad jump on Jeff Bianchi's two-run pinch single and was an easy out, and pinch runner Logan Schafer broke for third on a grounder to short in the eighth inning where he was retired easily.
Bianchi's hit was clutch and a big shot for the light hitting infielder, but it was also the only run scoring hit for an offense that features three positional All-Stars.
The same two teams meet again Tuesday night in the second game of a four game series.
