PITTSBURGH -- Marlon Byrd may have lost the baseball "battle", but he won the "war" in the Pirates 7-1 win over the Brewers Wednesday night.
Byrd's 14 pitch at bat against Tom Gorzelanny ended up with a strikeout. But Gorzelanny may have tired after that.
He exited having allowed 4 runs on 9 hits over 5 and one-third innings.
In the 7th inning, Byrd, playing his first game since being traded to Pittsburgh from the Mets, smashed a 3-run homer off reliever Burke Badenhop.
Ron Roenicke's Crew will try to get the bats out of their slumber in the "rubber match" iof the 3 game series, Thursday night at PNC Park.
