Kick off the holiday season by giving back to local charities, but how?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Humane Society’s Board of Directors and Young Leaders Advisory Board is offering a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $8,500 for any donations received today - Giving Tuesday.

After Thanksgiving and Black Friday, people around the world celebrate Giving Tuesday on Tuesday, December 2. Charities, families, businesses and students around the world come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

At the Wisconsin Humane Society, all donations on Giving Tuesday will not only be matched, but will go to support animals like Porkchop.

Just five months old, Porkchop came to the Wisconsin Humane Society from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC), where he had arrived as a stray.

Life on the streets had taken its toll on little Porkchop.  His body was covered in painful sores and he wheezed as he tried to breathe through his congested lungs.  He was losing his hair, too.  WHS staff gave Porkchop the medicine he needed to start to heal and placed him in a foster home where he is currently resting and recovering at his own pace.

Porkchop is just one of the more than 20,000 animals who receive lifesaving care every year at the Wisconsin Humane Society.
