MECA Foundation raises awareness about the need for more Wisconsin K-9 Police. Chip meets two K-9 units, the four-legged force of the Greenfield Police Department. The K-9's are born and bred to be officers. They commit to 40 training sessions per month and roughly eight years of their lives to serve the people. It's that commitment that pushed Marla Lichtenberger with the Milwaukee Emergency Center of animals to launch the Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation. "We decided to establish this foundation and then have the MECA Fest every year for raising awareness -- getting donations to try to continue the foundation and getting new vests and new dogs," Lichtenberger said. This year's MECA Vest, a K-9 Fest, will take place on July 20th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center. In addition to raffles, food and entertainment, police demonstrations will run throughout the day.
