Woof! Dogs & their owners hit the pavement for the Humane Society!

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Sunday, May 18th was a beautiful day for a stroll -- and what better than a morning walk with man's best friend! Greenfield Park played host on Sunday to LOTS of doggies (and humans) taking part in the Wisconsin Humane Society's "Tails on the Trail" walk!

The Tails on the Trail walk is the Wisconsin Humane Society's annual fundraising walk.



The walk began at 10:00 a.m.

Walkers were encouraged to collect donations to support the Wisconsin Humane Society's animals.

"This is incredible! It’s a great event. I’ve never been to anything like it, before. Looks like it’s gonna be lots of fun for Molly!" one Tails on the Trail walker told FOX6 News.

The Wisconsin Humane Society organizes the fundraiser to support some 24,000 animals that come through the Humane Society every year.

"We’re expecting about 1,300 walkers to be here and 400 dogs. That’s almost double what we had last year, so we’re just thrilled to have the support of the community here," Jenny Mueller with the Wisconsin Humane Society said.

The puppy party featured an appearance by Milwaukee's most famous pooch -- Hank the Ballpark Pup!

After the walk, participants had the opportunity to take part in family-friendly activities, including entertainment, vendors and exhibitor booths, food trucks, a dog agility course and lure coursing for the pups, Q&A with behavioral experts, games for the pups, nail trimmings, a prize wheel and even -- a special Tails on the Trail fashion show -- new this year.

"It’s very cool. I’ve never been to something like this before," 15-year-old Kevin Diaz said.

Diaz is with the Wisconsin Humane Society's Young Advocates Club.

The Young Advocates Club is for teenagers ages 13 through 18 in the Milwaukee area who want to make a difference in the lives of animals.

The purpose of the club is to educate the community about issues affecting animals, develop ways to help animals in need and create a community that values animals and treats them with respect and kindness.

"It’s pretty fun and like, I’m learning how to properly address dogs and people with dogs, and give them proper treats and regiments on how to like, clean them and make sure that your house is safe for them," Diaz said.

The walk itself allowed those who love dogs the opportunity to spend some time with their cherished pets -- and each other.

"I love it! It’s so amazing to see all these dogs all around here!" a Tails on the Trail participant said.

The Tails on the Trail fundraising goal was $121,000.
