Woman using cell phone collides with freight train in Germantown

GERMANTOWN -- A 20-year-old woman whose car collided with a freight train in Germantown Wednesday morning, July 18th, was using a cell phone at the time of the wreck. Remarkably, she was not hurt.

The collision happened on Mequon Rd. just east of Fond du Lac Ave. around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

An accident report shows the woman was attempting to make a call. When she looked up, she noticed the train crossing the roadway -- and was unable to stop her vehicle before it hit the train.

All the railroad crossing lights and bells were activated at the time of the collision. The woman's car suffered damaged -- but again, the driver was not hurt.

Germantown police say the driver was cited for inattentive driving.
