The rules committee voted in August to extend the regulations through Oct. 16th to give the state Justice Department more time to develop permanent rules. Those rules are done but still need approval from a standing committee in both the Assembly and Senate. Neither house has scheduled any votes on the package. Justice officials asked the rules committee to extend the temporary regulations through Dec. 15. The panel voted 9-0 on Thursday, September 27th to grant the request.
