Whitewater burglary suspect in custody after standoff

WHITEWATER -- A man is in police custody after a three-hour standoff in Whitewater, Monday evening, May 14th. Police were called to a two-story home at 470 N. Whitewater Street by a burglary victim.

While there, police heard noises from an upstairs apartment which was vacant. They tried several times to get the person to come out, with no success.

“We called in the Walworth and Jefferson County Tactical Teams who made contact with the suspect. Walworth County negotiators were able to get the suspect on the phone and get him to come out,” Capt. Brian Uhl with the Whitewater Police Department said.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld until formal charges are filed.
