"We have to take care of them:" Can you help stuff 'Stockings for Soldiers?'

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- They're the classic red stockings that symbolize Christmas, but these ones won't be hung above a fireplace.

"We just feel that we have an obligation to the community to do these things. They're taking their time to take care of us, we have to take care of them," said Max A. Sass and Sons Funeral and Cremation Service President Jim Sass.

Once again this year Max A. Sass and Sons is taking part in 'Stockings for Soldiers.'

This is Bridget Miliacca's second year participating in the effort and she gets her whole family involved.

"We don't really focus much on gift giving for each other anymore we have a project we like to do and so last year we each took a couple of stockings," said Miliacca, who is an apprentice at Max A. Sass and Sons.

Max A. Sass and Sons donates about 100 stockings, but you can help. You can pick up an undecorated stocking at any 1 of its 5 locations.

"We strongly encourage people to decorate theirs because that's what makes it so much more special I feel for the troops to have personal touches and little letters that people are writing," said Miliacca.

After decorating, fill the stocking using a list of recommended items found inside the stocking.

"Mints, multivitamins, moisturizer, lip balm, shampoo," said Miliacca.

Then return it to the funeral home and they will mail it for the troops to receive the stockings in time for the holidays. Last year, Max A. Sass and sons collected 700 stockings.

"It really was an overwhelming volume to see in one of our chapels just like boxes and boxes and boxes," said Miliacca.

A response they hope to once again see this year. Max A. Sass and Sons Funeral and Cremation Service will be collecting the stockings through December first. For a list of locations to drop off the stockings CLICK HERE.
