Watermain break in Whitefish Bay impacts Jewish Comm. Center
WHITEFISH BAY (WITI) -- The bitter cold is causing problems in Whitefish Bay.
Whitefish Bay Department of Public Works crews on Wednesday, February 26th -- braving the freezing temperatures trying to fix a watermain break on Santa Monica Boulevard.
The deep frost made it difficult for them to dig in order to find the problem.
Surrounding homeowners and businesses were warned crews would be out working Wednesday -- and that meant there was a possibility the water could be shut off.
The Jewish Community Center took precautions and closed its pool, showers, and bathrooms in the fitness wing of the building.
Everything else remained open.
"When we did our big capital campaign about seven years ago, a major part of our building was added on and that`s on a separate watermain. So even if there was some sort of disruption, it would just be to a portion of our building for a short period of time," said Jewish Community Center Executive Director Mark Shapiro.
A portion of northbound Santa Monica Boulevard was closed Wednesday due to the watermain issue.
Crews hoped to have the problem fixed by close of business Wednesday.
