Walworth County Traffic Enforcement Task Force announces results from December deployments

WALWORTH COUNTY (WITI) -- The Walworth County Traffic Enforcement Task Force has announced results from three deployments during the month of December. During these deployments, a total of eight people were arrested for drunk driving, bringing the total number of people arrested for drunk driving during these deployments to 14.

The deployments occur for four-hour periods, and a total of 16 hours has been worked. Officials say one person has been arrested for drunk driving nearly every hour the task force has worked.

On December 12th, officers from across the southern portion of the county deployed between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and midnight. This deployment resulted in 69 citations and 28 warnings.

Officials say by far, the most common violation was speeding.

Four people were arrested for drunk driving, and five people received citations for having open alcohol in their vehicle.

The second deployment occurred on December 20th, between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Two OWI arrests and a felony drug arrest were made. A total of 33 citations and 27 warnings were issued. This deployment occurred in the eastern portion of the county.

The public was not warned in advance of the December 27th deployment. Four drug arrests were made, and two OWI arrests were made. A total of 40 citations and warnings were issued for speeding. Altogether, 83 citations and 48 warnings were issued. This deployment was assigned to the west end of the county.

Since the Task Force began in November 2013, officials say nearly 260 citations and 170 warnings have been issued.

Future deployments are planned for Super Bowl Sunday and St. Patrick's Day.
