MILWAUKEE -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and University of Wisconsin System officials are touting a new "flexible degree" program announced earlier this week.
The program allows students to get credit for what they know, as long as they can prove it, without taking classes.
The program is designed to improve affordability and access to college.
The program also allows those who never finished college coursework to get degrees.
Gov. Walker left Marquette University in good standing without finishing his degree, and said he could see himself in the program someday.
"This is more personal -- but I didn't want credit for life experience because I didn't want someone saying 'you got that because of who you are.' With a program like this, I'm treated the same as everybody else," Gov. Walker said.
Gov. Walker said the plan could help working adults, and soldiers deployed overseas.
