Videographer behind Sen. Ellis video vows more oversight on politicians

MADISON (AP) — The videographer behind the video that led to Sen. Mike Ellis deciding not to seek re-election says lawmakers should get used to being watched.

A recording showed the Republican talking about setting up a political action committee, which would be illegal. Two days after the video was released, Ellis announced he would not seek re-election.

Political scientists say secret recordings have become common in all levels of politics.

Gov. Scott Walker was also recorded in 2011 talking on the phone with a blogger posing as wealthy businessman and Republican donor David Koch.

Some say the tactics will chill free speech by politicians and could prevent more people from getting involved in local elections.
