MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Purchasing a vacation on layaway is a smart option for those consumers who may not be able to pay the entire cost at once. FOX6's Contact 6 looked into some companies offering this deal.

Among those who offer this service include: Gate One, Sears Vacations, British Airways and Delta. Contact 6 found that these deals were ideal for families looking to save money by paying a little at a time.

And luckily for consumers, thousands of cruises and vacation packages are available for purchase - some even allow you to lock up the price of the trip up to 11 months before departure.

Gin Esch of Funjet Vacations said this marketing technique is just one of the ways the vacation industry is trying to get you to take some leisure far away from home.

"This sort of program makes it tangible and feasible to them," Esch said. "It allows you to come in and deposit now and have something to look forward to and save for and then have that trip when they want that trip."

Some airlines require bigger deposits - however, the key to finding a vacation aligned with your budget is beginning the payment process when the total price of the trip is at its lowest. The best time to find these lower prices is during the off-season and non-holiday trips.
