University of Wisconsin System finished 2013-14 with $973 million on hand

MADISON (AP) — The University of Wisconsin System finished fiscal year 2013-14 with more than $973 million on hand.

The system released new data Monday showing campuses and system administration had a total of $973.3 million left over on June 30. About $798 million has been earmarked for a specific use and $110.8 million has been placed in reserves. No spending plan exists for the remaining $64 million.

UW officials have asked Gov. Scott Walker to give them an additional $95 million in tax dollars in the next state budget. System President Ray Cross is defending the request despite the $174 million in total reserves, saying the reserves are spread across multiple campuses. He says there's no single pot of $174 million he can tap.
