Two displaced after fire breaks out near 37th and Courtland

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee fire officials on Thursday, January 23rd were on scene of a one-alarm fire that broke out near 37th and Courtland Ave. just before 5:00 p.m.

The fire displaced two residents -- and the Red Cross was assisting those individuals.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering burns on his neck.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

We've learned the fire started in the bedroom of the 1.5-story home, and caused $48,000 in damage to the home and an additional $17,800 to the home's contents.

Fire officials say there was no working smoke detector inside the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
