Two confirmed dead following crash near 11th and Capitol

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred near 11th and Capitol on Sunday, April 14th.

It happened around 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14th.

Police say an 17-year-old driver and 19-year-old passenger were killed in the crash. The occupants are related.

Police say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a tree.

Eyewitnesses described the screeching of tires from two cars, consistent with a drag race leading up to the crash.

Dozens gathered at the scene -- many trying to figure out whether their loved one was involved. One woman seemingly found out that her relative was involved in the wreck and was inconsolable at the scene.

"One dude come around the corner and he lost control and crashed into the tree. And then we saw him against the tree and a leg hanging out the car," Donya Johnson said.

"Basically when I pulled up there was one guy laying against the car and another one pinned up against the tree. And it's ironic because you couldn't tell how it would happen with just one vehicle, but man this is like Final Destination but in real life. It's unbelievable," Brandon Horton said.
