Two arrested after cameras found in women's locker room at RecPlex

PLEASANT PRAIRIE (WITI) -- Pleasant Prairie police have announced the arrest of two people after locating two cameras placed inside the women's locker room at the RecPlex on Terwall Terrace in Pleasant Prairie.

Police say the cameras were discovered by a RecPlex member on Monday evening, April 7th.

Two cameras were found inside the women's locker room -- one in an upper locker and one in a lower locker, according to police.

"It's an incredible violation of somebody's privacy," Pleasant Prairie Police Chief David Smetana said.

Police say they have arrested a 27-year-old Pleasant Prairie woman (and RecPlex member) and a 36-year-old Waukegan man. Police say the woman's RecPlex membership has been terminated.

FOX6 News has learned the man and woman reportedly work for the same employer -- but we do not know the details of their relationship.

Police are currently investigating how the video was used or if it was distributed. Pleasant Prairie police are working cooperatively with Waukegan police and the Illinois State’s Attorney’s Office.

Police say a search warrant was executed on a residence in Waukegan on Tuesday, April 8th.

Police say they are monitoring the situation closely, and are reviewing evidence recovered to identify potential victims.

"We're going to be going through this painstakingly to see if we can identify who the victims are that's why we're asking for (the public's) help as well," Chief Smetana said.

Police believe this incident was isolated to the women's locker room between the months of January and April of 2014.

RecPlex officials say children in the preschool and before or after school programs do not use the women's locker room -- but instead use the family locker room with their class and their teachers.

RecPlex says it has a strict policy prohibiting the use of photography or videography inside locker rooms and has been conducting locker room inspections in order to enforce this policy and others.

RecPlex says it has instituted additional security measures to help protect members against this form of crime within the facility.

Staff has also increased inspections of the facility’s locker rooms.
