Thunderbirds lose piece of plane during visit to Milwaukee, have you spotted it?

MILWAUKEE -- While the United State Air Force Thunderbirds are in town for the Milwaukee Air & Water Show, one of their F-16s experienced a material failure during an over-flight of the area and a piece of the plane fell into an empty field between N. 6th Street and W. McKinley Avenue.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 23rd.

Thunderbirds say a piece of the horizontal tail separated from the aircraft and fell off.

No one on the ground was injured, and there was no damage to property.

The piece of the plane is approximately 5 feet by 18 inches and contains carbon graphite fibers, which could cause health concerns if mishandled. Recovering this piece is important to the mishap investigation.

If you have information regarding its current location, you are asked to contact Milwaukee Police Department at 414-933-4444, or the FAA at 414-486-2920.

This will not impact the Milwaukee Air & Water Show.
