Three injured following crash on I-43 near Hwy. 14 in Town of Darien
WALWORTH COUNTY (WITI) -- Three people were injured Sunday night, March 24th following a traffic accident on I-43 near Highway 14 in the Town of Darien.
According to police, the driver of a 2007 pick-up truck slid off the icy highway while attempting to exit the ramp to Highway 14. The truck went down an embankment, struck a tree -- partially ejecting the driver.
The driver was flown to a Madison area hospital. He sustained a broken ankle, broken pelvis, and head injuries.
Two passengers were also severely injured. One male passenger was flown to a Milwaukee area hospital with multiple broken bones to the arm and hand and facial injuries.
The second male passenger was taken by ambulance to a Milwaukee area hospital. He sustained a broken neck, broken back, and facial injuries.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office will be referring charges to the District Attorney’s Office for the following alleged offenses: operating while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated causing great bodily harm (two counts), operating while suspended, open intoxicants in motor vehicle, and operating without insurance.
