Thomas Martin sentenced for involvement in shooting of boy

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Thomas Martin of Milwaukee was sentenced on Wednesday, April 3rd for his involvement in the shooting of an eight-year-old boy last year.

Martin will spend the next seven years in prison -- with eight years of extended supervision.

According to the criminal complaint in the case, Martin showed a gun to his four-year-old son and an eight-year-old boy, who was his girlfriend's son.

Martin then allegedly put the gun back into his bag, and the four-year-old pulled it out and shot the eight-year-old boy in the stomach.

Martin then allegedly took off, and was later arrested.

During his sentencing, the judge scolded Martin for his actions.

"Your reaction at the time of caring only about you -- of saying 'I gotta get out of here' and taking that gun and running out while the child is bleeding from the stomach -- that does not show a kind and concerned person. It just doesn't," Milwaukee County Judge Rebecca Dallet said.

The boy was able to recover from his injuries.
