"This is not our gig:" County Board committee votes against funding, operating streetcars in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County officials say they don't want to get into the streetcar business with the city of Milwaukee.
City officials haven't selected an organization to operate its streetcar system, but they have mentioned the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) -- which runs Milwaukee County buses as an option.
On Wednesday, May 6th, the Milwaukee County Board's Transportation, Public Works and Transit Committee approved a resolution against funding the project and running the streetcars.
"I just don't want to see it going in the red, and the rest of Milwaukee County paying for it. This is not our gig, not our production," Milwaukee County Supervisor Steve Taylor said.
The resolution now goes before the full Milwaukee County Board.
