NORTH CAROLINA (WITI) -- A professional football player decided to give up his $37 million contract to become a farmer.
CBS News has reported St. Louis Rams center Jason Brown bought 1,000 acres, and he now farms crops including cucumbers and sweet potatoes in North Carolina.
Brown says farming is more fulfilling than sports.
"My agent told me, ‘you’re making the biggest mistake of your life' -- and I looked right back at him and I said, 'no I'm not,'" Brown said.
Brown says he had never farmed a day in his life, but says he researched -- watching YouTube videos and getting advice from other farmers.
He has reportedly just finished his first harvest.
He says his plan was inspired by God, and that he plans to give away huge amounts of food to the needy.
"When you see (the food) pop out of the ground, man -- it's the most beautiful thing you could ever see," Brown said.
