Teresa Boone dead after apparent robbery at Milwaukee park
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say a woman is dead after an apparent robbery Sunday night, September 2nd at the Kilbourn Reservoir Park near North and Bremen. Family members identify the victim as 45-year-old Teresa Boone.
Officials say around 9:30 p.m. a 32-year-old man approached Boone in what they believe to be an attempted robbery. Authorities say neighbors witnessed the incident and immediately called police.
When police arrived on the scene, they were able to locate and arrest the 32-year-old suspect within minutes with the help of a witness.
Family members say Boone has three children. She had just gone out to dinner last week to celebrate starting college at UW-Milwaukee to study accounting. Family members say Boone was trying to turn her life around.
Robert Quinn has known Boone for more than two decades. Their three kids are now grown; two of them even have kids of their own.
"What he did was wrong. It was senseless. He didn't have to do this. He could have just took the money and ran. He didn't have to kill the woman. That's a life that's taken -- a family we ain't never gonna see no more. My grandkids -- they ain't going to see their grand-momma no more," Quinn said.
Quinn told FOX6 News it was a woman who heard Boone's screams for help and followed the suspect while guiding police to him.
Quinn's mother, Carolyn Boyd, says Boone had just begun studying accounting at UW-Milwaukee and had dreams of opening her own business.
"It's just so hard to just grasp the idea of her passing away. She just was so happy that she was going to college and getting her life back on the right track," said Boyd.
Police have not released information about the man in custody. However, they say they are not looking for any other suspects.
There was a large police presence in the area Monday night, following the murder.
