Teenage girl charged in fatal hit-and-run appears in court

MILWAUKEE -- A 13-year-old girl accused of stealing a car and then hitting and killing a man was back in court on Friday, December 14th. A judge did not rule whether Illajhe Davis will stand trial as an adult. But there was testimony in the case.

Davis is charged in connection with the August hit-and-run crash that killed 57-year-old Ronald Forbes.

"She looked back and she saw a bike and that's when we realized that she had hit someone," said Milwaukee Police Officer Stella Payne.

Payne spoke with Davis after the crash. She says Davis told her the summer morning started with a car theft. She says Davis drove the car with another teen in the passenger seat, speeding through two red lights.

"After going through the lights, she heard a noise, like a bump sound," said Payne.

That was a moment police say Davis realized she hit Forbes.

"That's when she told me that she saw the man up in the air and then she saw him go down toward the rear left side of the car," said Payne.

Davis' mother, whom we are not identifying, is standing by her daughter.

"I just hope that justice is served, I feel the pain everyday that anyone feels that lost someone because I lost my daughter as well," said Davis' mother.

FOX6 News spoke with Ronald Forbes' ex-wife who did not wish to go on camera. She says the family's biggest concern is that Davis will be tried as a juvenile.

A judge will decide in late January whether Davis will be tried as an adult.
