Tax filing deadline is approaching; help is available

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- With three weeks remaining before the income tax filing deadline of April 15th, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue would like to remind taxpayers of the many resources available to help them prepare and file their tax returns.

The DOR website at revenue.wi.gov has instructional videos, links to forms and common questions, as well as a new DOR mobile app with the most popular tax-related online services.

This tax season there are also over 200 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites in Wisconsin that offer free income tax filing assistance for low to moderate income residents, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

At these sites, trained volunteers are available to answer questions and e-file returns.

"Whether you are preparing your return yourself or seeking assistance at a VITA or TCE site, it is important to know about all the resources available to help you," said DOR Secretary Richard Chandler.  "We encourage taxpayers who have yet to file their taxes to visit our website at revenue.wi.gov for helpful information, or call 2-1-1 to find the volunteer tax site nearest to them."
