Sunset Square Apartments damaged after early morning fire

GREENFIELD -- An early morning fire damaged a second floor unit in the Sunset Square Apartment complex in Greenfield.

Officials say the fire broke out just before 5 a.m. Monday, March 12th, leaving one person with minor injuries. Authorities say two people resided inside the apartment and were forced from the residence due to the fire.

Firefighters from several departments were called to the scene to assist with the flames.

"The unit was found to have room and content fire in the second floor stairwell and second floor bedroom. We were able to contain it after a short period of time," Jeff Hohensee, Greenfield Fire Department lieutenant said.

The American Red Cross is assisting residents. Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
