Stevens Point Fire Department gets its stolen statue back...so who took it?

STEVENS POINT (AP) — The Stevens Point Fire Department has its stolen Boy with the Boot statue back.

Capt. Charles Skibba tells WSAW-TV (http://bit.ly/1rlPHAU ) that two UW- Stevens Point students returned the statue to Station One on Saturday morning. He says they admitted to taking it as part of a bet and keeping it in their dorm room.

The two students were issued citations. Skibba says they'll likely face misdemeanor charges and will have to pay restitution to fix the damage.

Skibba says most of the damage is cosmetic, but the department will have to remount the statue and fix its plumbing.

The statue was stolen between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Saturday. Staff noticed the statue was missing while working on an ambulance. Security cameras didn't catch the crime in progress.
