Squad cam video of Derek Williams' struggle played during inquest

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee County inquest jury watched on Friday, February 15th the complete squad car video of Derek Williams gasping and asking for help before he died in 2011. Friday was the fifth day of an inquest into Williams' death.

Several of Williams family members left the courtroom when the 15-16 minute video was being played for the jury. They did not want to view the final moments of their loved one. The jury however, watched intently and listened to an expert talk about what might have happened to Williams.

Medical College expert Daniel Debehnke was put on the stand on Friday. He testified about sickle cell crisis, a condition cited as a cause of Williams' death. Debehnke said in other cases, at least 90% survive. But the expert could not predict whether Williams could have survived had treatment come sooner.

On Monday, the closing statement is expected before the inquest jury makes its advisory recommendation on whether anyone should face charges in Williams' death.
