HALES CORNERS/MUSKEGO -- Hales Corners police say a 40-year-old man was taken into custody on Saturday, March 19th in connection to a report of a missing woman.
According to police, Friday March 18th they received a report of a missing 68-year-old woman in the area of S. 116th Street and Timberline Trail.
Neighbors say police have been at the scene since 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
"This is kind of weird that everybody's here," said Robert Baumeister, neighbor.
Police tape and squads surround a home near 116th and Timberline Trail in Hales Corners.
"I thought it's got to be something serious," said Sue Steffen, neighbor.
Neighbors walk by with questions, surprised by a police presence.
"This is the only way in and out of the neighborhood, so we know something big is going on," said Baumeister.
Police were called to the area for a report of a missing 68-year-old woman.
"We got an email from our neighborhood watch captain that said there's a missing person, active missing person from this neighborhood, investigation going on," said Baumeister.
More information then led officers to a nearby Muskego landfill -- although police would not elaborate on what they were looking for.
Investigators say a 40-year-old man was taken into custody, but not formally charged.
"I have no idea who lives there," said Steffen.
Neighbors aren't familiar with the owners of the home in question.
"It's been sold about three or four years ago, so I don't know the owners," said Steffen.
There is still a lot of concern.
"We're just all quiet. Neighborhood watch, we all watch out for each other," said Baumeister.
They look for answers as an investigation unfolds -- hoping their neighborhood returns to normal.
"This is a really quiet neighborhood. Really there's never been any problems or anything around here," said Baumeister.
Police say there is no threat to the public and this investigation is ongoing.
No other details have been released at this time.
